Pin Grading

Enamel pins come in three types of grades: Standard, Seconds, and Oopsie. 

Every pin is handmade, so every pin cannot be perfect. 

Criteria for pin grading is different for every pin maker, and these are Apari's guidelines.

Standard: 

Our highest grade of pin and free of major imperfections. Enamel pin may include minor imperfection upon closer inspection or at slight angles. 

These minor imperfections may include but are not limited to:

☆scuffs/scratches/dents in metal or enamel

☆tiny bubbles in the enamel

☆underfill/overfill/spread of enamel or metal in small areas

☆tiny black or gray dots

☆tarnish on the side or back of the pin

☆minor enamel discoloration.

Standard pins are great for wear and display ♡

 

Seconds: 

These pins have one or more noticeable minor imperfections.  

Minor imperfections may include but are not limited to: 

☆larger scuffs/scratches/dents in metal or enamel

☆multiple bubbles in the enamel

☆underfill/overfill/spread of enamel or metal in larger areas

☆larger black or gray dots

☆tarnish on the side or back of the pin

☆post slightly loose

☆more noticeable enamel discoloration

Example: 

These pins are more suitable for wearing on jackets/hats/bags and for a more casual collector ♡

 

Oopsie:

These pins have multiple minor or major imperfections.  

Multiple major imperfections can include:

☆deep scuffs/scratches/dents in metal or enamel

☆more noticeable bubbles in the enamel

☆significant areas of underfill/overfill/spread/missing of enamel

☆metal lines missing

☆larger black or gray dots

☆tarnish on the side or back of the pin

☆the post is loose/bent

 ☆significant areas of enamel discoloration
